SUMMARY:How to Attract Pollinators to Your Garden or Farm
DESCRIPTION:Tim Brod of Highland Honey will speak about how to attract native pollinators to your garden or farm\, and how to maintain and sustain them once they are there. Among native pollinators are the over 900 species of bees native to Colorado. Attracting native pollinators can help increase the fecundity of your crops\, especially if there are plants that require pollinators other than honey bees. Cultivating native pollinators has to do with making sure that you have soil\, terrain\, and plants that are hospitable to them. A Q&A session will follow the talk. \nSpeaker: Tim Brod

SUMMARY:Tribute to Diana Kennedy
DESCRIPTION:Culinary legend Diana Kennedy\, the subject of the new Nothing Fancy: Diana Kennedy documentary\, has spent decades learning and teaching about authentic regional Mexican cuisine. \nIt’s only fitting that our tribute to her will start with a Mexican feast\, featuring bites of regional Mexican food. Mexican feast participants include Centro Mexican Kitchen\, Comal Heritage Food Incubator\, Comida\, Super Mega Bien\, Teocalli Cocina\, Work and Class\, and Zocalito Latin Bistro. \nOne of the foremost authorities on Mexican cooking\, Diana Kennedy has written nine books on this subject. A meticulous researcher and culinary anthropologist\, she based her books on decades of travel throughout Mexico while interviewing and learning from cooks of all kinds. The Mexican food that she presented was not from one monolithic cuisine but numerous regional cuisines. \nThe tribute will continue with a 7pm screening of Nothing Fancy: Diana Kennedy and an interview of Top Chef Denver competitor and James Beard semi-finalist Chef Claudette Zepeda\, formerly of San Diego restaurant El Jardin\, by former Eater Denver editor Andra Zeppelin. \nLike Diana Kennedy\, the regional cuisines in Mexico are a primary inspiration for the food of Claudette. Born in the U.S. and raised between Tijuana and San Diego\, she credits the confluence of flavors and ingredients she was exposed to while spending time with family in Tijuana and Guadalajara as paving the way for her eventual career. \nMexican Feast Menu \nCentro Mexican Kitchen: Masa Cake con Carnitas—Red mole carnitas\, pickled red onion\, serrano chile \nComal Heritage Incubator: Ensalada de Nopales—Cactus salad with tomato\, red onion\, cilantro\, jalapeño & lime.  Topped with queso fresco and crema Mexicana and served on a tortilla chip \nComida: Ceviche Tostada—Bolder blue corn tostada topped with white fish cerviche \nJim Pittinger of Biker Jim’s Gourmet Dogs: Rustic tart with cajeta and horchata anglaise \nTeocalli Cocina: \n\nEsquites—Burnt tortilla aioli\, Morita lime powder\nPork Carnitas—Braised pork shoulder\, roasted tomatillo salsa\, pickled oregano onions\nBirria de Res—Charred beef short rib\, guajillo sauce\, caramelized leeks\n\nWork and Class and Super Mega Bien: \n\nHalibut Yuzu Cerviche—Halibut yuzu cerviche\, cucumber pico de gallo\, avocado sauce\nDrink: Loca pasiones! with Doña Loca Espadín Mescal\, passion fruit\, spicy apple cider syrup\, lime juice\n\nDoña Loca mescal and Agua Bendita tequila imported by Dana Rodriguez\nMescal produced in Oaxaca\, tequila in Tequila Jalisco \nZocalito: Braised chicken in Oaxacan yellow mole with cotija cheese and herba santa \nSpeakers: Claudette Zepeda\, Andra Zeppelin

Or\, the stone metate is used to grind moles and corn in Mexico and wheat in Zimbabwe. \nNo charge but registration is required. \nSpeakers: Claudette Zepeda

SUMMARY:A #MeToo Look at the Restaurant Industry
DESCRIPTION:Join us for the first lecture of our new lecture series\, which addresses the #MeToo movement in the restaurant industry. The male-dominated restaurant industry became fertile ground for the #MeToo movement almost immediately after film industry exposes revealed instances of sexual assault and harassment at the highest levels. \nSexism\, inequality in management and leadership\, and sexual assault and harassment frequently occur in the restaurant industry. In the kitchen\, men often significantly outnumber women. The situation at the top is even more pronounced with a paucity of female executive chefs\, management\, and owners. The #MeToo movement has been an opportunity to address this situation. \nRestaurant industry insiders Beth Gruitch\, a partner in the Crafted Concepts restaurant group\, and Sara Brito\, Co-Founder of the Good Food Media Network and publisher of the Good Food 100 Restaurants™\, will share their insights on this topic. \nNo charge but registration is required. \nSpeakers: Beth Gruitch\, Sara Brito

SUMMARY:Tampopo at the Alamo Drafthouse Westminster
DESCRIPTION:We are pleased to co-present a special screening of the Flatirons Food Film Festival hit film\, Tampopo\, with the Alamo Drafthouse Westminster. Get ready for the 2019  Festival by whetting your appetite with one of the best food films of all time. \nThe tale of an enigmatic band of ramen ronin who guide the widow of a noodle shop owner on her quest for the perfect recipe\, Tampopo serves up a savory broth of culinary adventure seasoned with off-beat comedy sketches and the  exploits of a gastronome gangster. Sweet\, sexy\, surreal\, and mouthwatering\, Tampopo remains one of the most delectable examples of food on film. \nThe late Anthony Bourdain recognized the extreme foodie quotient of this film\, saying\, “There is no more ‘foodie’ a film.” Though Tampopo predates this term\, it anticipates a kind of insane fetishism that is commonplace today. \nRamen demo \nFor a complete ramen experience\, there will be two more ramen events that you can attend. Get to the theater early to catch a ramen demonstration and sampling by chef Jesusio Silva of Miski @ Superior\, which starts at 3:15m. \nRamen dinner \nAfter the film\, come to our ramen gathering at Misaki @ Superior so we can slurp noodles and discuss the movie together. Everyone is responsible for their own tabs. Save your ticket stub for a 15% discount.
