2019 Cinematic Art

The saying that we eat with our eyes spotlights the power of vision, both literal and figurative, to affect our other senses and interpret the world. When we asked Rob Lantz, R Gallery owner, to curate an exhibition of visual art inspired by Flatirons Food Film Festival films, our intention was to tap into that power.

Commissioning the Art

Lantz invited eight local artists to participate, assigning four artists to our two opening night The Migrant Kitchen films, Omotenashi and The Jewish Deli, and the other four artists to Tazzeka.

Nearly all of the artists are painters, most residing in Boulder county. Their work ranges from landscapes to portraits.

Exhibitions

In temporary exhibits, we will exhibit the work that they have created, inspired by the films, before our Opening Night: The Migrant Kitchen and Tazzeka programs at the Boulder Public Library. R Gallery will stage a complete exhibition of the art a week before and after the Flatirons Food Film Festival takes place October 3-20.

All art will be available for sale with a portion of the proceeds to go to the Festival.

Come and see the art that these artists have created, then the films. The exhibition of art inspired by The Migrant Kitchen films will take place on Thursday, Oct. 10 from 6:30-7:30pm. The exhibition of art inspired by Tazzeka will take place on Saturday, Oct. 12 from noon to 1pm.
