This program will include two episodes from The Migrant Kitchen, an Emmy-winning television series that explores Los Angeles’ immigrant food culture.

In Omotenashi we meet the couple behind Echo Park’s Tsubaki izakaya (a type of informal Japanese pub), buckwheat enthusiast and soba noodle instructor Sonoko Sakai, and ikejime (traditional Japanese fish preservation) practitioner Seiichi Yokota.

The Jewish Deli spotlights Factor’s Famous Deli (a pillar of the Los Angeles food community for over 70 years) as well as newcomers Micah Wexler and Michael Kassar of Wexler’s Deli, specializing in “old school deli soul food.”

There will be an intermission with tastes of Japanese and Jewish deli food.

Note: Join us for an exhibition of art inspired by Omotenashi and The Jewish Deli from 6:30-7:30pm. For more information on the artists and project, see Cinematic Art.
